MAPS Alumni and Students present at NCPSA

2024 NCPSA

MA Political Science students attended the annual NC Political Science Conference (NCPSA) March 22-23, 2024 in Asheville, NC. Students Mia Altieri, Mia Bocko, Matt Grogan, Jake Siegel and Sarah Widdrich presented research and participated in a roundtable discussion at the conference. Faculty members Dr. Ardoin, Dr. Ruseva, Dr. Key, Dr. Love and Dr. Yanus also presented research and participated in the conference. The MAPS program looks forward to helping prepare students for this conference each year, as it provides experience in a professional setting  for students. It also provides an opportunity for networking for students in attendance.

Lunch and Learn- Spring 2024

The MAPS program hosts a Lunch & Learn series as a mechanism for sharing collaborations among students and faculty, and an opportunity for students to present their research, discuss ideas, and participate in skill building workshops. On March 6, 2024, Dr. Phillip Ardoin, Sarah Widderich, Mia Bocko, and Matt Grogan presented their research on the leadership crisis in the US House of Representatives. Students that have ideas for a Lunch & Learn event, or are interested in presenting their research can email Dr Ruseva (rusevatb@appstate.edu) or Dr. Hye-Sung Kim (kimh7@appstate.edu).

Social Events

The MAPS program has a tight knit cohort and a strong sense of community with their professors and University. The program hosts social events each semester for students to destress and connect with one another. Past events have included trivia nights, bowling, watching sporting events together, hikes and more! Below are pictures from the Pumpkin Carving Competition that was held in October 2023.
